The Faculty of Health Sciences operates at the Kuopio Campus of the University of Eastern Finland. We are now inviting applications for
a Postdoctoral Researcher or Project Researcher (Neurosciences) position, Faculty of Health Sciences, A.I. Virtanen Institute for Molecular Sciences, Kuopio Campus
We are looking for a motivated candidate to target neuroinflammation as a therapeutic strategy using in vitro and in vivo models of Alzheimer’s disease and stroke. You will join a very active and well-equipped group of neuroscientists studying various aspects of neuronal function and neuroinflammation in the context of different neurological diseases. We utilize murine in vitro and in vivo models as well as human induced pluripotent stem cell -based models. The chosen candidate will be based in the group of Associate Professor Tarja Malm (https://www.uef.fi/en/web/aivi/tarja-malm-group) funded by Horizon2020 and the Academy of Finland.
A person to be appointed as a postdoctoral researcher shall hold a suitable doctoral degree. Positions of postdoctoral researchers shall always be filled for a fixed term (UEF University Regulations, Section 31).
The person to be appointed to the Postdoctoral Researcher Position is required to hold a doctoral degree, which may not have been completed more than five years ago at the time of accepting the position. In this context, the 5 years refer to a net period of time, which does not include maternity leaves, parental leaves, or military service, etc.
If the doctoral degree has been awarded more than five years ago, the post will be one of a Project Researcher. The person to be appointed to the Project Researcher Position is required to hold a doctoral degree.
The candidate should have a PhD degree in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology or in a relevant discipline. Experience in surgically induced models of ischemic stroke and evaluation of the functional outcomes is expected. Enthusiasm and commitment will need to be coupled with attention to detail and adherence to good laboratory techniques. Good knowledge of written and spoken English is essential. An ideal candidate will have a high degree of independent thought and initiative. The candidate is expected to have a letter of recommendation from two previous and recent supervisors / PIs.
The position is filled for a one-year period starting from 1.2.2020 or as agreed. The position is filled for a fixed term due to the duration of the project.
The salary of the position is determined in accordance with the salary system of Finnish universities and is based on level 5 of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff (€2,935.55/ month). In addition to the job requirement component, the salary includes a personal performance component, which may be a maximum of 50 % of the job requirement component.
